First contact with Chicago

I could say that I haven't had the best start with the city of Chicago, but I think that's just a sign telling me I am gonna like it. On saturday, when Katyas father picked me up at the airport, he kindly offered me to get me a ride around in Chicago. It was sunny and stunning. Lake Michigan, Sears tower, the Chicago river. But what was I thinking!!! It was not a very clever thing to go around by car after such a long trip. I ended up carsick, throwing up in the car and totally embarrassed. To vomit in the car is not the nicest thing you could do when this familiy is doing so much for me (bland annat, letting me stay at their place for a month). But some things are just impossible to control. The day after, recovered from the trip, Andreas G. came and picked me up to show me around in Chicago. I was unlucky enough to bring the snow with me from Stockholm. This wet snow that becomes slask as soon as it touches the ground. And this snow was coming from pretty low clouds. So when you looked up thats all you could see. Clouds. Impossible to see the top of the buildings. And forget about walking. It didn't stop snowing a single minute. We went up to the Hancock tower restaurant and there we were literally in a cloud. Finally we went to the rehearsal of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the training orchestra of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. They were rehearsing Mahler, and the conductor was great, explaining to the audience things about the way Mahler composed, what we should pay attention to, anecdotes. And the orchestra was amazing. If they were the students, I don't want to imagine the real Orchestra. Next weekend I am giving the city another try. Tredje gången gillt. Hoppas jag.
